Packet milk?

Uncategorized

Jeremi received a message from Jaskamal the other day. It read: “You take packet milk?” Well we were certainly unsure what packet milk was so we asked him. He said, “Packet milk comes in packets or you can order straight from the cow.”

Uh…packet milk please!! So Jaskamal brings us unchilled milk in little bags and we cut them open and pour the milk into an empty water bottle. This is the sort of thing that makes living in another country so fun and difficult all at the same time?

On Monday evening we had the great privilege of going to Jaskamal’s house for dinner. They knew that our children have a hard time with spicy food, so his mother was very sweet to reduce the spice a lot for us. They then began to notice our children were drinking lots and lots of water. The littles kept coming to Jeremi and me whispering “It’s spicy!” They asked us, “Is this spicy for you?!” We were so embarrassed and had to confess that yes, it was indeed spicy! We all had a good laugh over it?

They bought us many gifts and were very happy to have our children there. Jaskamal and Sonika have our children call them Cha-cha, little brother of the father, and Ma-Si, little sister of the mother. It is sweet, they care very well for our family and are very protective. Jaskamal in particular is very gentle. They both have extremely good senses of humor, so we have a good time with them, but always attended with a deep sense of sorrow and praying often for the Lord to open their hearts to the gospel.

Jaskamal’s father died 5 or 6 years ago, so he now just lives with his mother and two older sisters. On our first trip to Ludhiana during one of our gospel conversations Jaskamal shared with us that the day that his father died his family was gathered in the room and very upset because they knew he was dying. He told us that some Christian missionaries came into the room and gave them a Bible and prayed over his father. They then told him that his father would be healed and would not die, just have faith…he died that night. I will leave my strong emotions about this false gospel out of this post.

This experience greatly changed him. Since that time he has left all religion and no longer believes in religion or the idea of a god. Our conversation with him the other day was just so sad. We truly felt as though we were pushing with all our might against a stone wall, but we know the One who strikes the hearts of men and brings forth Living Water. The work is prayer. Please pray friends, most earnestly that his heart like Lydia’s would be opened to the gospel and that we would be able to help him to see his sin and need of Christ.

  1. Same as Paul experienced when false (or misled) teachers taught novice Christians. Scripture is so maligned. Be patient and kind!
